Health Care Plans

If a student needs to take medication during school hours, or on a school camp, the school must be informed.

Students cannot take any medication at school or on camp without a Medication Agreement from the appropriate medical practitioner.

This applies to all medications including:

  • prescription drugs
  • over the counter medicines, such as pain relief
  • students unexpectedly needing pain relief while on school camp

Staff are trained to administer medication that cannot be taken before or after school and it is a requirement that it be stored securely in the First Aid room. An exception to this may be emergency medication, where the student may need immediate access – eg allergic reaction.

Taking medication for the first time

Students must not take the first dose of a new medication at school because of the dangers of an allergic reaction. The first dose should always be supervised by a parent or health professional.
